Senior Electrical Engineer 2 - Mission Critical

About the Role

This position allows for a hybrid arrangement with a mix of work from home and in the office. It offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Electrical Engineering and provides an excellent opportunity for career advancement. You will support electrical design engineering efforts on a multi-disciplined project design team and lead others in using modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.

Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering calculations, analyses, and reports.
  • Prepare design inputs for drawing production, including electrical site plans, power and lighting plans, one-line diagrams, assembly drawings, conduit and wire run schedules, wiring diagrams, and elementary diagrams.
  • Apply electrical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components.
  • Produce procurement specifications and construction specifications.
  • Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Lead teams in automating engineering tasks (e.g., using Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel) and oversee the use of AI or agentic AI tools while ensuring results are checked.
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.
  • Must be able to obtain a US Government security clearance.
  • BSEE or MSEE degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7+ years of progressive responsible experience in electrical engineering, ideally in a nuclear environment.
  • Experience with producing engineering designs for low to medium voltage electrical distribution systems and instrumentation wiring; experience with multiple system types is a plus.
  • Experience with NEC, UL508, electrical codes, and IES Lighting Handbook.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn load flow and/or arc flash analysis software such as ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn lighting analysis software such as Visual and AGI32.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License (PE).
  • DOE experience preferred; commercial or Navy field engineering and construction experience.
  • Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Pay

Compensation range: $100,019 - $152,807. The total compensation package includes a base salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Individuals may also be eligible to participate in a yearly discretionary bonus.

About the Business Unit

Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. This includes supporting the DOE Environmental Management Directorate and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) laboratories and sites. You will contribute to multi-discipline design teams working on projects that clean up environmental damage from legacy nuclear weapons production and preserve the country’s nuclear deterrent. This involves designing facilities, systems, and equipment for treating, storing, and disposing of nuclear waste, as well as safely handling and processing nuclear material.
