Senior Electrical Designer/Engineer Project Manager

Core Responsibilities
Manage electrical engineering projects from planning through construction.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Develop project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and project execution strategies.
Lead multidisciplinary project teams across multiple Mazzetti offices.
Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and profitability while proactively identifying and resolving project risks.
Facilitate project meetings and coordinate communication among clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with client expectations.
Electrical Design & Technical Leadership
Lead the design and documentation of electrical systems for complex healthcare facilities, including hospitals, medical office buildings (MOBs), and other critical environments.
Perform advanced electrical engineering analyses, calculations, load studies, arc flash/coordination studies, and system evaluations.
Prepare or oversee electrical calculations, equipment selections, specifications, system layouts, and construction documents.
Design and review power distribution, emergency power, lighting, lighting controls, grounding, fire alarm, and related building systems.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for quality, constructability, code compliance, and technical excellence.
Ensure designs comply with applicable California codes, HCAI requirements, industry standards, client requirements, and Mazzetti quality expectations.
Apply deep healthcare engineering expertise to support project delivery and technical excellence.
Construction Administration
Support projects during construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, participating in site visits, and resolving technical issues.
Cookordinate with contractors, owners, and project teams to support successful project delivery through project completion.
Business Development
Support project pursuits through proposals, interviews, presentations, and technical discussions.
Build and maintain strong client relationships that foster repeat business.
Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients.
Represent Mazzetti professionally within the Southern California healthcare market and industry.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor and provide technical guidance to electrical engineers and designers.
Support collaboration across Mazzetti's disciplines and practices.
Participate in quality control reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Foster knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the Electrical discipline.
Work Location
This is a hybrid position based in the Orange County / Los Angeles, CA area, including primarily working from home, client site visits throughout Southern California, and occasional presence in one of our Southern California offices as needed for project collaboration and team-building activities.
Travel Requirements
Approximately 10–15% travel, primarily within Southern California based on project assignments.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
10+ years of electrical engineering or electrical design experience within the AEC consulting industry.
Extensive healthcare design experience, including hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, and other complex healthcare environments.
Demonstrated success serving as the project manager for multidisciplinary building engineering projects, including responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, client communication, and overall project delivery.
Experience leading electrical design efforts on complex healthcare projects from planning through construction.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
Experience supporting project pursuits, proposals, and client presentations preferred.
Technical Expertise
Advanced knowledge of power distribution, emergency power, lighting, grounding, and building electrical systems.
Strong understanding of California Electrical Code, California Building Code, HCAI (formerly OSHPD) requirements, and healthcare facility design standards.
Advanced proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and SKM (or comparable electrical analysis software).
Experience overseeing design quality, coordination, and technical deliverables.
Familiarity with sustainable, resilient, and high-performance building design principles.
Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and organizational skills.
Licenses & Certifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license in California strongly preferred.
