Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical design deliverables using AutoCAD, including power distribution one-line diagrams, panel schedules, lighting and receptacle layouts, grounding system plans, and lightning protection systems.
- Determine conduit, conductor, and wire sizing, meticulously accounting for current loads and environmental variables.
- Afford cable tray fills methodically to guarantee proper cable management, organization, and future scalability.
- Perform detailed short circuit calculations to accurately determine fault currents, select appropriate protective devices, and ensure system safety and reliability.
- Perform precise voltage drop calculations to ensure electrical system stability and compliance with industry standards.
- Ensure all electrical designs strictly adhere to pertinent local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations.
- Apply established electrical design techniques, such as load flow analysis and fault current calculations, and exercise discernment in adapting and modifying design concepts as needed.
- Uphold quality control by adhering to company and team electrical design standards and industry best practices.
- Work with other Designers, Sr. Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders on specific assigned objectives, complex features, and aid in deriving possible solutions to unusual problems.
- Support project managers and electrical engineers in managing scope, schedule, and cost through accurate work package deliverable timelines, submittal tracking, and RFI responses.
- Mentor and train junior electrical designers on drafting standards, calculation techniques, and software tool use, fostering a continuous improvement mindset within the design team.
- Cook up electrical system designs, foster collaboration, communication, strategy, and support within your team, multidisciplinary groups (Mechanical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural, etc.), and inter-company teams to optimize efficiency, quality, and resource allocation.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- An Associate degree in engineering or architectural fields is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Experience with other tools such as Revit, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, and/or EasyPower is a plus.
- Ability to produce power distribution schematics, panel schedules, lighting and grounding plans, and other system diagrams aligned with industry standards and client criteria.
- Proficient in interpreting electrical one-line diagrams, creating construction documents, and collaborating within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., National Electric Code, NFPA, etc.).
- Proven ability to coordinate and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including project managers, engineers, architects, and trades to deliver technically accurate and constructible designs.
- Effective communication skills for client interactions, contractor coordination, and mentoring junior team members in design best practices and drafting standards.
Pay
Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
