Senior Electrical Designer
About the role
Design and engineer lighting, power and low voltage systems for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial, educational, governmental and healthcare structures in conformance to client requirements and applicable codes. Provide the engineering to develop the construction documents for the installation, interconnection, and control of electrical, architectural and mechanical components.
Responsibilities
- Possess / demonstrate the engineering knowledge and understanding to design and/or analyze electrical systems for the installation, interconnection, and control of electrical, architectural and mechanical components.
- Using applicable codes and standards, design and engineer lighting and power distribution systems, low voltage systems (fire alarm systems, telecommunications, data networks, lighting control systems, power monitoring systems, etc), including sizing of equipment.
- Manage or lead a project team.
- Review and/or establish project scope, electrical budget, design approach, and applicable constraints with the Project Manager or client as appropriate.
- Process / demonstrate full understanding, application, and interpretation of the NEC and other relevant NFPA standards as they apply to the electrical design.
- Adhere to project quality, budget, and schedule.
- Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc.
- Perform production and quality monitoring of construction documents per company standards.
- Communication and work with all other disciplines to produce coordinated construction documents.
- Edit and draft project specifications.
- Develop and mentor less experienced staff.
- Develop accurate project cost estimates.
- Conduct field measuring and checking at the project site.
- Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, schedules, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.
- Review project submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents; specify action required for conformance.
- Respond to RFIs.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required.
- LEED accredited professional qualification preferred.
- 10+ years of related experience in power distribution/lighting design.
- Experience with short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination and arc flash hazard software (e.g. SKM, ETAP or EasyPower).
- Possess the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification from any of the 50 states.
Skills/Competencies
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in SKM, ETAP or EasyPower.
- Bluebeam BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong attention to detail.
