Senior Electrical Design Engineer
About the role
The Senior Engineer II for Electromechanics / Electrical Design is responsible for the design, development, validation, and optimization of low-voltage power distribution products and electromechanical systems. This role works across multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate electrical, mechanical, and electronic technologies into innovative products that meet customer, regulatory, quality, cost, and performance requirements. The engineer applies technical expertise in low-voltage electrical design, electrical power distribution systems, electrical equipment and devices, and electromechanical applications to support the complete product development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Concept development
- Detailed design
- Simulation planning
- Prototyping
- Testing
- Validation
- Manufacturability optimization
- Sustaining engineering activities
Requirements
This role requires experience developing electrical products such as power distribution equipment, electrical safety devices, current-carrying components, electromechanical assemblies, sheet metal components, and protection systems. The engineer evaluates product performance related to electrical insulation systems, thermal behavior, arc fault protection, earth leakage protection, reliability, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.
Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge: Electrical Power Distribution systems and applications. Electrical Equipment and Devices, including protection, switching, control, and current-carrying components. Electrical Design principles, schematics, specifications, and product architecture. Low Voltage Electrical Design, including protection coordination, safety, and compliance considerations.
- Desired Knowledge: Electrical Wiring methods and practices. Load Monitoring Systems, power monitoring, and energy measurement applications.
- Engineering Concepts and Application Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding and practical application of: Electrical insulation functions, including dielectrics, insulating materials, insulating gases, creepage and clearance considerations. Thermal exchange and heat transfer principles affecting product performance and reliability. Arc fault detection principles and protection technologies. Earth leakage protection systems and electrical safety concepts.
Skills
The engineer independently drives technical decisions, mentors less experienced engineers, and contributes to the continuous improvement of engineering processes while ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and business objectives. The role primarily supports the development of products within the Low Voltage Power Distribution and Electrical Distribution industry, where prior experience is strongly preferred.
