Senior EHS Manager

Responsibilities

• Engage the workforce, both salaried and hourly, to drive cultural change and accomplish EHS performance objectives and targets.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and JCI corporate safety systems.
• Review planned changes and new equipment installations; approve or recommend changes in manufacturing and engineering matters such as plant layout, machinery location/relocation, safety designs, and processes.
• Support property risk by partnering with Facilities to ensure compliance with FM Global assessments and conduct routine property tours and inspections.
• Maintain and improve the corporate environmental management system; collect environmental data to determine root causes of compliance problems and pollution prevention opportunities, and implement proactive corrective steps.
• Complete and submit applicable environmental reports in a timely fashion (e.g., Tier II, TRI Form R, Generator’s Residual Waste, Waste-Water Self-Monitoring, Air Emissions Inventory) with a detailed understanding of EPA requirements.
• Administer, implement, and ensure compliance with the ISO14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Safety Management System.
• Manage the hazardous and non-hazardous waste program, ensuring correct handling, packaging, labeling, storage, and transportation of waste to approved facilities.
• Lead and manage the implementation and continuous improvement of the Process Safety Management (PSM) program to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and enhance operational safety.
• Coordinate air emission, wastewater, storm water, and waste auditing and testing.
• Present safety and environmental training programs to workers and supervisors, including developing site-specific training materials.
• Apply knowledge of health and safety engineering processes and practices to identify and mitigate hazards and risks.
• Conduct research to apply best industrial and working practices; identify and evaluate unsafe practices to address root causes.
• Use technology and forward thinking to lead safety improvement projects.
• Measure and audit the effectiveness of EHS hazard control programs such as lock-out tag-out, JHA/JSA, and permit programs.
• Meet regularly with the Safety committee and union safety leadership to support best practice sharing, resolve safety concerns, and make improvements.

Requirements

• University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5–7 years of minimum experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with high hazard controls in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience developing and driving a safety culture improvement plan, implementing key safety initiatives focusing on injury prevention and behavior-based safety.
• Experience building a strong compliance calendar to ensure regulatory compliance across all EHS programs.
• Skills and ability to be considered a Safety subject matter expert in one or more of the following: cranes and rigging, electrical/Arc Flash, fall protection, and/or welding.
• Strong background in OSHA standards, compliance reporting requirements, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Experience with PSM regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, PSM, EPA).
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
• Effective and professional communication and organization skills.
• Strong customer service orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or other related EHS certifications.
• Experience working with ISO management systems.
• Solid understanding and experience with behavior-based safety programs.
• Knowledge of and skills in Lean Manufacturing and Safety Kaizens.

Pay

Hiring salary range: $112,000–130,000. Salary is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data.
