Senior Editor, Leadership and AI Innovation
About the role
Edutopia, the influential publisher of stories and videos about what works in education, is seeking a sharp, experienced editor to shape its emerging school leadership and AI Innovation beats.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop compelling story angles related to leadership and AI in K-12 education
- Create and assign features, scripts, and social media stories that provide educators with actionable insights and spark real conversations
- Build relationships with influential voices in leadership, education, and AI
- Cover a wide range of topics including classroom tech, learning science, motivation, student development, and the future of education
- Represent the organization at in-person conferences and online events, including facilitating panels
- Manage more junior staff members and contribute to or lead podcasts
Requirements
- 7+ years of journalism/reporting with feature writing, feature editing, and feature assigning experience
- Proven ability to identify trends and turn them into sharp, compelling story angles
- Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven digital media environments
- Genuine interest in improving preK-12 education and curiosity about how leadership and AI are shaping it
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, social, video, and community teams
- Experience using data to inform editorial priorities and content strategy
- Experience managing more junior staff members is a major plus
- Experience contributing to or leading podcasts is a major plus
Work Environment, Schedule, And Physical Requirements
This role is primarily remote and requires a dedicated home office workspace with reliable high-speed internet and standard office equipment. Extended periods of work at a computer and participation in video calls are expected. Occasional travel is required for team gatherings and organizational meetings. The role also requires availability for in-person meetings, workshops, and design reviews as needed, and coordination across time zones. Employees must maintain a primary residence and work location in a single U.S. state for tax and compliance purposes.
Benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $100,000-$125,000, depending on experience, skill level and geographic location and organizational needs. The role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus of up to 10% of base salary for exceptional performance.
