About the role

Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves direct client interaction to ensure high-quality work standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Develop work packages for overhead, underground, rural distribution, and make-ready projects
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned
  • Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up
  • Conduct scope analysis and adhere to schedules to advocate client priorities
  • Drive continuous improvement in workflow processes to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and assess complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
  • Work with field data collection and develop large design packages for complex projects
  • Handle work permits, easements, and right-of-way applications

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in electric utility design engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Proficiency in structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, protective device coordination, and electrical demand and fault current calculations
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation for local or regional customer-site visits

Skills

  • Providing estimated costs and developing Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Calculating Cost Information Analysis and Control (CIAC)
  • Using design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult
  • Working with work management software and job estimating software
  • Using CAD or MicroStation for electrical distribution design
  • Ensuring Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for design projects
  • High-level organizational and project management skills
  • Uptraining entry-level resources and creating process documents

Pay

The pay range for this role is $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The actual pay will vary based on factors including responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements (if any), or other law.

Schedule

This position offers remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Allentown, PA to support local utility customers as needed. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to be available for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania on an as-needed basis.
