About the role

Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves direct client interaction to ensure high-quality work standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Develop work packages for overhead, underground, rural distribution, and make-ready projects using customer GIS and WMS systems like EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned
  • Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up
  • Conduct scope analysis and adhere to schedules to advocate client priorities
  • Drive continuous improvement in workflow processes to enhance efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, manage work permits, easements, and ROW applications

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in electric utility design engineering or consulting
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Experience and proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation for local or regional customer-site visits

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Collaborative attitude and inclusivity of individuals from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations
  • Positive attitude and professional dress and demeanor

Skills

  • Proficiency with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult
  • Experience with work management software and job estimating software
  • CAD or MicroStation – Performing Electrical Distribution Design
  • Experience in providing Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for Design Projects
  • High level organization and project management skills
