About the Role

Join Ross, a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores and a strong track record of success and growth. This role sits within General Purpose Store Operations, a large and complex organization supporting Stores and Field teams. The Store Operations Planning and Administration team serves as the central coordination point, driving clarity, alignment, and execution across Store Operations in a highly dynamic environment with high visibility, variability, and volume.

The Senior Director, Store Operations Planning and Administration, operates as both an enterprise leader and the PMO leader for the organization's most critical initiatives. This role shapes priorities, enables effective decision-making, and ensures alignment across senior leaders and key stakeholders. As a strategic thought partner, this individual anticipates business needs, surfaces risks and opportunities, and translates strategy into actionable plans. The position also orchestrates communication, drives organizational effectiveness, and manages one direct report.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership, synthesizing inputs to inform decisions, frame recommendations, and advance key priorities.
  • Serve as PMO for Store Operations, integrating cross-functional projects and initiatives to prevent silos and ensure sound business decisions.
  • Provide insight, guidance, and recommendations on fast-moving, highly nuanced initiatives while serving as the primary point person for Senior Leadership and Executives.
  • Integrate and connect cross-functional initiatives, ensuring visibility into interdependencies, sequencing opportunities, and potential synergies.
  • Simplify complexity by distilling large volumes of information into clear insights, executive-level communications, and actionable plans.
  • Lead special projects and high-priority executive requests, often under tight timelines and with significant visibility.
  • Drive organizational focus and effectiveness, helping senior leaders filter noise, manage ad hoc demands, and maintain alignment on key priorities.
  • Establish and manage operating rhythms for senior leadership, including agendas, decision forums, and follow-ups to ensure accountability and forward momentum.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional work experience, preferably within strategic management consulting, retail, and/or consumer products.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record as an outstanding problem-solver and strategic thinker.
  • Able to quickly identify key issues and develop hypotheses.
  • Able to work in and bring structure to ambiguous environments.
  • Very strong written and oral communicator with proven ability to communicate with and influence senior executives; strong presentation and deck-writing skills.
  • Experience with strategic initiatives, cross-functional stakeholder engagement, and project management, including driving results and managing competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people leadership skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively using a broad range of influence styles to drive desired results; works well with others and is considered a true team player.
  • Strong executive presence and command skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity, humility, and resilience to navigate a fast-paced retail landscape.
  • Detail-oriented approach to managing work processes; must pay close attention to details and have the drive to get things right.
  • Unquestionable personal and professional character and integrity—must be trustworthy with confidential information.
  • Strong fundamental business technical skills—must be Excel and PowerPoint proficient and able to learn new business process software applications.
  • Prior retail or related experience is preferred; understanding of retail P&L, balance sheet, and financial operating requirements of an off-price, low-cost retail operator is ideal.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $158,300 - $297,950. The range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location.

Schedule

This role requires regular in-office presence, including for team interaction, meetings, and collaboration, but can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files.
  • Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
