About the role
This is a great opportunity for an experienced tax professional to play a significant role on the real estate tax client-service team. The Tax Senior Director will supervise team staff members and reports to the Senior Managing Director. This person will also lead day-to-day workflow management. Responsiveness to client deadlines (for both tax return and special projects/consulting) is essential.
Responsibilities
- Supervise team staff members

- Lead day-to-day workflow management
- Ensure responsiveness to client deadlines for tax returns and special projects/consulting
- Supervise and manage a portfolio of clients of varying size and scope
- Act as the point of contact for internal and external clients
- Build and manage client relationships
- Lead team of tax professionals working on client projects
- Manage risk and financial performance of engagements
- Manage REIT and tax due diligence projects and other tax consulting engagements requiring expertise in corporate and flow-through taxation
- Anticipate client needs and advise clients on transactions/tax issues
- Deliver high quality tax service and advice
- Plan and execute training content for internal and external clients
- Encourage innovation of client solutions by utilizing technology efficiently
- Initiate continuous coaching and professional development opportunities
- Contribute to market and business activities external to the firm
Requirements
Candidate will possess strong compliance skills (i.e. management of the tax return preparation process) as well as the ability to grow technically. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for this team-oriented position.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting
- CPA License
- 7+ years of real estate industry tax experience with a well-regarded accounting firm or direct private experience with a REIT, PE Fund or family office; 8 years overall minimum experience
- This role may require travel to clients and FTI offices
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas
Preferred Skills
- Graduate degree in Taxation or JD is a plus
- Proficient in taxation of Partnerships
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Current or previous experience in a similar position with a public accounting firm (principal, senior manager)
- U.S. Withholding Tax experience for non-U.S. Partners
- Strong technical skills in the taxation of REITs, Partnerships, and other flow-through entities
- General understanding of key concepts under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as it relates to public REITs/PE Funds
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex financial information
- Experience managing multiple client engagements and providing exceptional client service
