Senior Director, Product Development
About the role
The Senior Director, Product Development is the single point of accountability for on-time delivery of the entire DIRECTV product roadmap across three platforms — Satellite, Streaming Managed Hardware – Gemini, and BYOD Platforms – Roku, Tizen, FireTV, Android, Apple, LG and Vizio.
The role serves as the Product organization's escalation authority with Engineering VPs and leads a multi-Director, manager-of-managers organization delivering against a multi-million-dollar annual Engineering budget.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end Product delivery across three distinct platforms — Satellite, Streaming Managed Hardware – Gemini, and BYOD Platforms – Roku, Tizen, FireTV, Android, Apple, LG and Vizio — as the single point of accountability for on-time execution of the DIRECTV product roadmap.
- Serve as the delivery escalation authority for Product and for dependent Advertising, Commercial, and adjacent platform roadmaps, partnering with and holding accountable VP- and AVP-level Engineering leaders when execution is at risk.
- Lead and develop a manager-of-managers organization of multiple Directors and a sizable team of Product Owners/Managers — a significant share of them vendor/contingent resources — including active vendor and budget management.
- Direct delivery of a high-volume roadmap spanning hundreds of epics and thousands of features and user stories across multiple Program Increments each year, owning Program Increment planning, inspection, and story-quality standards.
- Own Product delivery against a multi-million-dollar annual Engineering budget, reviewing vendor/contingent budgets quarterly and setting platform KPI standards and delivery governance.
Requirements
- 15+ years product development experience, including leading teams in a large, matrixed technology or media organization.
- 4+ years’ experience as software engineer/developer.
- Proven accountability for product delivery at scale and for managing a multi-million-dollar engineering/vendor budget.
- Track record of leading vendor- and contingent-worker-heavy organizations, including vendor selection, performance, and budget management.
- Demonstrated success operating as a senior escalation authority, negotiating and driving delivery with VP- and AVP-level engineering and cross-functional partners.
Bachelor's degree in a business, engineering, computer science, or related field required.
Skills
- Deep expertise in Agile/SAFe delivery at scale — Program Increment (PI) planning, epic/feature/story management, inspection, and delivery governance.
- Strong executive presence and cross-functional influence, with the peer standing and communication skills to hold senior-level partners accountable.
- Rigorous program and budget management, with a data-driven approach to platform KPIs, story quality, and throughput.
System Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Agile delivery and story-quality tooling and enterprise backlog/roadmap management platforms (e.g., Confluence/Jira/Azure DevOps-class tools).
- Familiarity with the relevant platform environments — Satellite, Streaming Managed Hardware – Gemini, and BYOD Platforms – Roku, Tizen, FireTV, Android, Apple, LG and Vizio.
- Knowledge on how to leverage Claude, ChatGPT and/or CoPilot to enhance product development/management deliverables and processes.
