Senior Director, Product
About the Role
The Sr. Director of Product is the single-threaded owner of GTF's digital product portfolio—accountable for outcomes that improve the digital guest experience and responsible for the quality of product thinking that drives the organization forward. This role sits at the center of GTF's product-led operating model, leading two key PM functions:
- Platform Product Managers, who own Restaurant end-to-end and Specialty end-to-end.
- Brand Experience Product Managers, who own Menu, Content/CMS, and related brand-facing product work.
The Sr. Director of Product owns the roadmap, sets the working-backwards standard for the PM team, makes hard tradeoffs across a multi-track portfolio, and serves as the credible voice for digital product strategy with executive and brand stakeholders. They partner closely with the Director of Product Operations to focus on consumer outcomes, franchisee needs, team growth, and measurable results.
Responsibilities
Portfolio Ownership & Strategy
- Own the outcomes of GTF's digital product portfolio, including Restaurant end-to-end, Specialty end-to-end, Menu, and Content/CMS, and drive the strategy and roadmap for each.
- Build and maintain a multi-quarter portfolio roadmap spanning Platform and Brand Experience PM tracks, making tradeoffs when priorities compete and communicating reasoning to leadership.
- Set the working-backwards standard for the PM team, requiring clear problem statements, measurable outcomes, and documentation (e.g., PR/FAQ) for significant initiatives.
- Personally review and coach PMs on the quality of their product thinking.
- Identify untapped customer problems and revenue opportunities, backing proposals with evidence and financial framing.
- Define and track portfolio-level success metrics, monitoring outcomes post-launch and reporting honestly on performance.
Team Leadership
- Hire, manage, and develop the PM organization, including direct management of Platform and Brand Experience Product Managers.
- Build career paths that grow PMs into senior product ownership roles.
- Uphold the GTF PM bar, coaching every PM to own problem spaces—not just feature lists—and ensuring continuous progression.
- Resolve conflicts when Platform and Brand Experience priorities compete for engineering capacity or brand attention, making and owning the final call.
Business & Executive Partnership
- Serve as the primary product partner to executive and brand stakeholders (CDO, CGO, brand presidents), presenting a point of view rather than just status updates.
- Earn alignment through the quality of thinking, not the volume of slides.
- Partner with the Director of Product Operations on execution, relying on them for GTM activity, engineering collaboration, delivery cadence, and roadmap alignment mechanics.
- Contribute to GTF’s product operating model by shaping standards and rituals as a senior leader, not just a participant.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, design, computer science, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years leading a team of Product Managers or equivalent experience running a multi-team digital product portfolio.
- Demonstrated portfolio ownership: Experience owning outcomes across multiple product teams or workstreams, with a track record of making tradeoffs and delivering results.
- Direct-to-consumer e-commerce experience: Ownership of a digital product (e.g., mobile app, web ordering) with measurable impact on conversion, cart abandonment, checkout flows, or similar.
- Working-backwards discipline at scale: Experience setting and enforcing working-backwards standards (e.g., PR/FAQs) across a PM team.
- People leadership: Direct management of Product Managers, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
- Senior stakeholder engagement: Experience presenting product strategy and portfolio performance to C-level or brand-president-level leadership and earning alignment through clarity.
- Restaurant, QSR, or multi-brand retail experience is a plus.
Skills
- Portfolio-level outcome ownership: Defines success by aggregate metric movement across all PM-owned surfaces, not just individual roadmaps.
- Working-backwards thinking: Starts with customer problems and enforces this discipline across the PM team.
- People leadership: Hires, coaches, and develops PMs to GTF’s standards, making promotion and performance calls.
- Tradeoff-making: Comfortable deciding between competing priorities (e.g., Platform vs. Brand Experience) and owning the decision publicly.
- Executive presence: Earns alignment with CDO, CGO, or brand-president-level stakeholders through quality of thinking.
- Cross-functional influence: Aligns engineering, design, marketing, and brand teams without direct authority.
- Adaptability: Thrives in dynamic environments undergoing transformation, seeing change as an opportunity to shape outcomes.
