About the role

Etsy Payments is responsible for providing a delightful and trusted payments experience to our 90MM+ buyers and 5MM+ active sellers. Etsy Payments processes over $10B of volume/year across 60 countries and 20 currencies. As Senior Director of Payments Product, you will lead the product team that enables Etsy to accept the payment methods that our buyers trust, provide frictionless buyer checkout, and ensure that payments reliably work. You will also lead the teams that ensure sellers can see their financial transactions, receive timely payouts, and seamlessly complete tax and compliance requirements. You will set the vision for the Payments team and partner closely with Engineering, Design, Analytics, and Legal to build trusted payment experiences across every channel where Etsy listings appear — in-person, social, and agentic commerce.

This is a full-time position reporting to the VP, Marketplace Trust. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

Responsibilities

  • Set and evolve multi-year payments strategy — translating Etsy's North Star of accelerating the marketplace flywheel through trusted financial experiences into quarterly roadmaps across five squads.
  • Represent Payments in senior cross-functional forums with Legal, Finance, Accounting, and the exec team — on issues ranging from tax policy and regulatory response to payment network relationships and financial risk.
  • Drive high-stakes product decisions: for example, weighing in on which payment methods to launch next and in which markets, how to design financial holds in ways that don't erode seller trust, and how to balance auth rate interventions with COR.
  • Manage regulatory and compliance timelines with real financial consequences — including seller reverification programs protecting hundreds of millions in exposure, 1099 infrastructure, withholding tax implementations, and evolving digital sales tax requirements across multiple countries.
  • Hire, develop, and retain product managers across IC and manager levels; coach squad leads on navigating ambiguity, sizing trade-offs, and running effective discovery.
  • Serve as connective tissue between Payments and the broader Marketplace: ensuring buyer-facing checkout improvements, seller financial tools, and platform investments reinforce each other and ladder to company goals.

Qualities that will help you thrive

  • 10+ years building and scaling product teams in payments, fintech, or financial services with at least 4 years of managing Product Managers
  • Deep experience in payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure — with working knowledge of payment rails, authorization flows, compliance frameworks (PCI, KYC/AML), and/or tax obligations
  • Proven ability to set multi-year product strategy and translate it into executable roadmaps across large, cross-functional teams
  • Track record of shipping complex, high-stakes products in regulated environments — balancing growth objectives with legal, compliance, and risk constraints
  • Strong financial acumen; able to model trade-offs, size opportunities, and present confidently to senior finance and legal stakeholders
  • Experience working across global markets, including navigating varying regulatory requirements by geography
  • Exceptional cross-functional influence — comfortable leading without authority across Engineering, Legal, Finance, Design, and Operations
