About the role
Roof Above is an interfaith nonprofit organization focused on ending homelessness one life at a time by bringing the community together in service and support. The Senior Director of Facilities is a full-time, on-site role based in Charlotte, NC, responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Roof Above’s campuses and housing locations. This role leads the facilities team in managing building systems, maintenance, repairs, and vendor relationships to ensure that all sites support quality services for guests, residents, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement facility management strategies, including preventive maintenance plans, capital improvement projects, and compliance with safety, health, and regulatory standards.
- Supervise facilities staff, prioritize work orders, monitor budgets, and coordinate with program leaders to address facility needs across shelters, outreach sites, and housing programs.
- Oversee building systems, maintenance, repairs, and vendor relationships to ensure all sites support quality services.
- Engage in long-term planning for facilities growth, risk management, and continuous improvement of operational processes in alignment with Roof Above’s mission.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated facilities operations experience, including managing building systems, maintenance workflows, and vendor or contractor relationships.
- Strong facility management (FM) skills with a track record of overseeing multi-site campuses, capital projects, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven supervisory skills, including leading diverse teams, setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and fostering a collaborative, mission-focused culture.
- Budgeting expertise, including developing, managing, and forecasting operating and capital budgets for facilities and maintenance programs.
- Experience designing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to extend asset life, reduce downtime, and improve overall facility reliability.
- Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, business, or a related field; professional certifications (e.g., CFM, FMP) are a plus.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize in a dynamic, service-oriented environment.
- Commitment to Roof Above’s mission, with sensitivity to people experiencing homelessness and the ability to work effectively with staff, partners, and community stakeholders.
