About the role
We’re hiring a Vice President/Sr Director of Accounting for a large, privately held organization. This is a senior leadership role overseeing a sizable accounting function with responsibility for high-volume financial reporting, team leadership, KPI management, dashboard creation, and process improvement. The ideal candidate has experience leading Controllers or Accounting Managers, reviewing financials across a large number of entities/accounts, and building the metrics and reporting needed to manage a complex accounting operation.

Responsibilities
- Lead a large accounting and financial reporting team through Controllers, Accounting Managers, and Staff Accountants
- Oversee and review high-volume monthly financial reporting across a large portfolio of separate entities/accounts
- Review financial statements for accuracy, consistency, trends, and potential accounting issues
- Develop, manage, and continuously improve department KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting
- Build visibility into close timelines, financial statement completion, team productivity, portfolio workload, capacity, and quality metrics
- Use reporting and data to identify bottlenecks, workload imbalances, training needs, and process gaps
- Hold accounting leaders accountable to established KPIs, deadlines, and service levels
- Serve as a senior technical resource for complex accounting and financial reporting matters
- Take ownership of challenging accounts and develop plans to resolve historical or ongoing accounting issues
- Oversee accounting transitions and onboarding related to new business and organizational growth
- Partner with external CPA firms on audits, reviews, compilations, and tax matters
- Work closely with operations and external stakeholders on financial reporting, banking, cash management, and accounting matters
- Lead process improvement, standardization, automation, and reporting initiatives
- Partner with technology teams to improve accounting systems, data visibility, dashboards, and workflows
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience
- Experience leading a large accounting team, ideally through Controllers, Accounting Managers, or other accounting leaders
- Experience overseeing financial reporting across multiple entities, accounts, properties, or portfolios
- Strong background reviewing large volumes of monthly financial statements
- Demonstrated experience creating and managing KPIs, dashboards, performance metrics, and operational reporting
- Ability to use data to manage team capacity, workloads, deadlines, productivity, and financial reporting quality
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls
- Experience in a high-volume, multi-entity, portfolio, property, real estate, shared-services, or client accounting environment
- Proven success improving accounting processes, workflows, reporting, and automation
- Advanced Excel skills; Power Query, macros, dashboard/reporting automation, and large-data-set experience strongly preferred
- Strong communication and people-leadership skills with the ability to work across accounting, operations, senior leadership, and external partners
- CPA preferred, but not required

$125,000 - $155,000 per year
