This role owns the end-to-end remit for systems engineering for externally developed platforms & solutions, integration engineering, and technical application lifecycles across the organization.

A successful candidate is a dynamic leader with deep end-to-end pharma/biotech domain knowledge and technical expertise in digital & technology systems, systems engineering, data science, analytics, AI, and generative AI. The ideal candidate adapts communication styles to accommodate stakeholders, exercises diplomacy, and builds strong relationships while managing multiple projects in a global, geographically diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the single point of contact and strategic bridge to Global Technology Solutions (Enterprise IT), ensuring R&D systems align with global infrastructure, cybersecurity, identity management, and cloud platform standards while advocating for specialized technical requirements.
  • Oversee engineering, architecting, and deployment strategies for platforms & systems, balancing on-prem, hybrid cloud, and multi-tenant SaaS environments based on business needs.
  • Architect robust, low-latency API layers and data buses to bridge disparate third-party applications, ensuring seamless data interoperability across the organizational pipeline.
  • Implement modern observability frameworks, distributed tracing, and real-time telemetry to proactively manage system health, identify bottlenecks, and resolve failures.
  • Lead the design, configuration, and deployment of High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and containerized environments optimized for compute-heavy, complex processing systems.
  • Provide oversight for the engineering and maintenance of underlying storage fabric, data lakes, and pipelines managing the full ingest, storage, and processing lifecycle of datasets for Research.
  • Manage systems engineering and product development lifecycle, codebase evolution, patch management, and automated deployments of customized platforms and applications.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert on Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, engineering vector storage integrations, advanced chunking strategies, and semantic retrieval layers.
  • Design and implement agentic AI system patterns, orchestrating multi-agent frameworks for secure, multi-step autonomous workflows.
  • Engineer pipelines capable of handling multi-modal AI inputs and outputs, enabling systems to ingest, process, and reason across diverse data types.
  • Manage technical change strategy for infrastructure overhauls and cloud migrations in collaboration with Global Technology Solutions (GTS).
  • Drive organizational alignment around unified integration standards, guiding teams toward optimized technical architectures.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise IT to implement secure, enterprise-grade AI proxy layers and gateways, ensuring proprietary data and intellectual property are sandboxed.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing GRDTS team focused on Systems Engineering, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
  • Ensure all systems and platforms adhere to pharmaceutical industry regulations and internal security policies.
  • Liaise with vendors, Enterprise IT partners, audit, and compliance teams to coordinate system implementation and change activities.
  • Collaborate with R&D functions on standards and best practices to achieve business goals.

Requirements
