It serves as a critical integration point between corporate communications strategy and client‑facing teams, ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely messaging across all channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Management and Issues Monitoring: Develops, maintains, and continuously expands a robust library of communications resources—including talking points, Q&A documents, and template correspondence—for use by client‑facing teams. Monitors and updates these materials in response to legislative developments, market volatility, company announcements, and other emerging topics. Contributes to regular media monitoring reports that inform communications strategy and help leadership understand the organization’s media presence and positioning.
  • Field Communications and Communications Council: Serves as an integration point for topics relevant to client‑facing team members, maintaining consistent contact with communicators embedded across business lines. Leads and hosts the weekly Communications Council, writes, formats, and distributes a weekly field newsletter, and responds to frontline staff inquiries on communications guidance.
  • Written Communications: Develops customized letters for client relationship teams addressing critical issues, creates client letters for remediation efforts, provides template emails to accelerate responsiveness, advises on the written complaints function, and writes letters and briefing materials to support executive client visits, group events, and relationship‑building initiatives.
  • Executive, Business Unit, and Brand Media Relations Support: Partners with business leaders at TIAA Ventures to support media relations and raise the venture arm’s external profile, including developing press materials and coordinating media opportunities. Supports the Chief Marketing Officer’s press and earned‑media efforts and provides occasional support to the Vice President of Corporate Communications for CEO‑related media relations.
  • Crisis and Issues Response: Acts as a communications representative throughout the full lifecycle of emerging issues—from early monitoring to post‑incident response. Coordinates with operational risk management and business continuity teams, develops media, social media, and client‑response materials, engages external PR support, participates on post‑incident response teams, and may serve as Business Continuity Leader for the Corporate Communications Business Continuity Plan.
  • Core Communications Leadership: Directs communications project timing and progress, coordinates with internal and external print and design vendors, provides expertise to managers and senior executives on message development, creates communication strategies aligned with senior leadership goals, conducts final review and approval of drafts, and guides staff involved in communication events or presentations.
