Senior Design Reviewer (Electrical)

About the role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, Architecture and Engineering Unit seeks a Senior Design Reviewer (Electrical) to join the team. This position involves project scope development, existing conditions surveys, forensic analysis, review of design and construction documents, preparation and review of documents for in-house design projects, coordination of design reviews with architectural and engineering staff, and technical analysis of project design quality issues.

Requirements

• Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician, designer, or inspector of electrical installations, with at least eighteen months in a managerial, administrative, or supervisory capacity
• Five years of experience as described in 1 above, with at least 18 months in a managerial, administrative, or supervisory capacity and one of the following: 60 credits towards a degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an accredited college or university; or two years of full-time training in an acceptable electrical program in an accredited technical school; or completion of an apprentice program, at least three years in length, in the electrical trade or electrical inspection, and either four years of experience as described in 1 above, or two years of experience as described in 1 above plus either 60 credits or two years of education as described in 2 above
• A license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education Law, and at least two years of experience as described in 1 above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1, 2, or 3 above

Qualifications

• At least two years of experience as described in 1 above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity

Preferred Skills

• At least ten years of experience in commercial and institutional design/review experience in heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, fire protection and energy conservation, and multi-discipline design and construction-related issue resolution, including preparation of detailed sketches, construction documents, specifications and reviewing shop drawings of projects between 5 and 15 million dollars in construction cost
• Familiarity with sustainable design concepts and LEED requirements, current NYC Energy Conservation Code, Mechanical and Building Codes, Energy Analysis for Building Code Compliance, and renewable energy systems
• Proficiency in Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel
• Good interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills and being skilled in resolving multi-discipline design and construction issues
