About the Role

The Senior Database Administrator will coordinate and perform the duties required for implementation, maintenance, monitoring, performance analysis, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and user assistance across UI Health’s database environments. This position establishes and provides oversight for various databases to ensure optimum performance, reliability, recoverability, and stability in Production, Test, and QA environments. The role is directly responsible for database availability within UI Health’s defined performance goals.

Responsibilities

• Monitor database environments for continual availability, high performance, and security.
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of infrastructure for database high availability and disaster recovery.
• Identify process improvements, automate deployment tasks, and promote innovative solutions to common business tasks.
• Develop custom scripts to automate various database management processes.
• Assist in defining and enforcing database standards, best practices, methodologies, processes, and procedures.
• Design and develop reports and handle ad-hoc data requests.
• Install, configure, and integrate third-party applications and tools as needed.
• Manage problems and problem escalations in accordance with ITIL standards.
• Develop and manage projects and project plans.
• Manage license and hardware life cycle with technology refresh schedule.
• Provide support to critical production systems on campus.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues.
• Troubleshoot database and application errors.
• Provide 24×7 on-call operational support.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management, a related information management field, or a clinical area of study.
• Minimum of four years of professional-level IT experience in database design and administration, including demonstrated experience in design, implementation, maintenance, monitoring, performance analysis, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and user assistance.
• Minimum of four years of experience as a Database Administrator.
• Experience with Oracle Database Server or Microsoft SQL Server, Structured Query Language (SQL), SQL Server technologies, Cache’, or Sybase.
• Experience with performance monitoring and tuning using statspack and database management tools (such as OEM/GRID Control).
• Experience with enterprise-level backup and recovery.

Preferred Qualifications

• DBA certifications in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or cloud platforms.
• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database, advanced SQL (ANSI-standard), T-SQL, stored procedures, and query optimization.
• Experience supporting enterprise and hybrid environments, including Azure and AWS SQL platforms.
• Advanced knowledge of Windows, Linux/UNIX, and networking concepts (IP addressing, VPNs, firewalls).
• Extensive experience supporting Windows Server–based enterprise systems.
• Experience with Microsoft technologies including Azure, Active Directory, PowerShell, Datadatog, and Microsoft data platforms to ensure reliable and secure business operations.
• Experience implementing and maintaining High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances, replication, backup, and recovery.

Pay

$89,550 – $134,325 per year (final salary determined by market data, internal equity, candidate experience/qualifications, and budget)
