About the Role

EYP Mission Critical Facilities, part of Ramboll Americas Engineering, is an innovator and market leader in sustainable Data Center Consulting & Strategy, Design, and Commissioning. The Consulting group's core focus is providing data center strategy analysis to address clients' forward mission goals, including IT and Network architecture. The role involves developing data center sourcing solutions, such as leveraging existing facilities, colocation services, cloud services, or building new facilities, while addressing topology, reliability, redundancy, and financial analysis for decision support. The position also supports data center assessment projects for investors.

The Senior Data Center Consultant will lead and participate in strategy development projects, focusing on data center infrastructure analysis across four key areas: Electrical, Mechanical, Operations, and Master Planning. The role requires collaboration with a growing team of motivated professionals to address evolving data center design and operational challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical:
    • Interpret electrical one-line diagrams and evaluate mission-critical electrical distribution systems, including utility service, switchgear, UPS, generators, transfer switches, PDUs, transformers, and grounding systems.
    • Apply expertise in electrical redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N, etc.), reliability principles, load calculations, power capacity, and risk mitigation strategies.
    • Assess the condition, operation, and maintenance of critical power infrastructure, such as UPS systems, battery systems, standby power, and electrical distribution equipment.
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret operational data from electrical infrastructure to evaluate system performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry best practices.
    • Demonstrate working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), mission-critical facility design standards, and safe work practices in energized environments.
    • Prepare technical reports and serve as a subject matter expert using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Mechanical:
    • Interpret mechanical one-line drawings and evaluate HVAC infrastructure in mission-critical facilities, including central cooling plants, CRAC/CRAH systems, redundancy concepts, and system load capacity.
    • Assess the condition, operation, and maintenance of mechanical infrastructure, such as chillers, cooling towers, heat rejection systems, pumps, valves, piping, thermal storage, and controls.
    • Analyze mechanical system designs to identify components, single points of failure, reliability risks, and energy optimization opportunities.
    • Collect, interpret, and analyze operational data from mechanical equipment and perform engineering calculations related to cooling capacity, power, kVA, power factor, and energy performance.
    • Apply industry best practices for mission-critical mechanical systems, including redundancy classifications, reliability principles (MTBF, MTTR, availability, maintainability), and safe work practices.
    • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly as a customer-facing mechanical subject matter expert.
  • Operations:
    • Develop maintenance staffing plans and define technical skill requirements for mission-critical facility operations.
    • Operate and evaluate Building Monitoring and Control Systems (BMS/BAS) supporting critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
    • Assess the condition, maintenance practices, and documentation of mission-critical infrastructure, including raised floor environments, fire detection/suppression systems, and critical equipment records.
    • Evaluate operational processes, such as maintenance management, change management, and security systems, to ensure reliability, compliance, and best practices.
    • Identify single points of failure, assess infrastructure reliability risks, and develop cost-effective mitigation recommendations.
    • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of mission-critical systems, including Emergency Power Off (EPO), VESDA, FM-200, Ansul, sprinkler/pre-action systems, and physical security technologies (e.g., card access, video surveillance, biometric access).
  • Conceptual Master Planning:
    • Evaluate overall facility requirements and contribute to planning sessions and workshops.
    • Collaborate with Engineering/Design colleagues to develop conceptual designs for infrastructure expansion or capacity changes.
    • Apply a complete understanding of redundancy requirements and Tier levels.
    • Evaluate critical loading requirements for "greenfield" data center options.
    • Provide Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates (±30%) for recommendations.
    • Present findings and interact with customers at all levels.
  • Project Leadership:
    • Act as the client partner and project executive for major projects, managing quality, client relationships, and financial performance.
    • Participate in project delivery, including learning and utilizing the group’s analytic tools.
    • Communicate professionally and persuasively with senior client stakeholders (e.g., CIOs, CFOs, COOs) in verbal and written form.
    • Contribute as an industry expert in symposiums, professional journals, and webinars.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in data center infrastructure analysis, with skills in at least one of the following areas: Electrical, Mechanical, Operations, or Master Planning.
  • Ability to manage and deliver major projects, including financial forecasting and client management.
  • Strong presentation and writing skills for technical and executive audiences.
  • Willingness to travel 25%-50% of the time, with potential for sustained travel during global projects.
  • One or more of the following advanced requirements:
    • Applicable data center professional certifications.
    • 10+ years of data center operational experience in privately owned or colocation facilities.
    • BA/BS from an accredited College/University (Engineering or Computer Science degree preferred).
    • Ability to pass a background check prior to offer.
    • U.S. passport and ability to travel internationally.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $155,000 per year. Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for bonus, overtime, or other forms of compensation, along with a comprehensive benefits package supporting well-being, professional development, and work-life balance.
