Senior creative designer - exteriors
About the Role
Based in Warren, Michigan, General Motors North America is seeking a highly creative Senior Creative Designer to join a global design team working on forward-thinking, extraordinary elements in production design. This role involves researching, designing, and creating innovative concepts for automotive and mobility applications, from inception to implementation. You will focus on fresh, customer-centric interior designs for GM brands, generating concepts in both 2D and 3D while collaborating with cross-functional teams to refine and execute designs.
Responsibilities
- Lead a design team to develop bold interior designs that support brand goals and enhance customer experience, demonstrating strong design judgment, creativity, and attention to detail.
- Translate ideas into finished designs using 2D sketches, animations (Ai), 3D sketch tools, and collaboration with clay and digital sculpting teams.
- Collaborate frequently with the design team, sculpting organization, engineering, and fabrication teams in the development of new designs.
- Provide insight and recommendations to leadership while acting upon guidance in a deadline-driven environment.
- Maintain knowledge of current design trends and technology, presenting ideas to management and leadership to communicate design concepts.
- Exhibit courage in challenging expectations and follow the design process from sketch to final release clay model.
- Coordinate the work of other design personnel and mentor team members.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an OEM design studio.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design (Automotive, Transportation, Industrial, or related field).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating several series of sketches, ideations, and production program experience samples.
Skills
- Strong understanding of form, 2-D to 3-D interpretation, and visualization.
- Creativity, independence, autonomy, problem-solving, and design judgment.
- Team spirit, volume understanding, and ability to work independently or lead a team.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D design tools and collaboration with clay/digital sculpting teams.
