Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal expert and strategic advisor on U.S. and global trade law, including customs regulations, OFAC sanctions, export controls (EAR/ITAR), and antiboycott requirements.
- Lead the development and execution of global trade compliance policies, internal audits, and remediation programs to integrate trade risk management into supply chain and finance frameworks.
- Provide high-level counsel on complex trade issues such as tariff classification, country-of-origin determinations, antidumping duties (AD/CVD), and forced labor due diligence.
- Drive enterprise-wide solutions for duty optimization and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) strategies while managing engagements with government agencies such as CBP, BIS, and OFAC.
- Manage legal aspects of customs investigations, voluntary self-disclosures, and trade due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures to ensure seamless business integration.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in international trade law, encompassing CBP regulations, HTS classification, customs valuation, and sanctions compliance within a law firm or multinational environment.
- Expertise in drafting trade compliance policies/training materials and advising on trade compliance across international jurisdictions and supply chains.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, animal health, or life sciences industry.
- Working knowledge of EU and other major international export control and sanctions regimes.
- Familiarity with Global Trade Management systems, such as SAP GTS.
- Knowledge of FDA and USDA import requirements applicable to veterinary pharmaceuticals and biologics.
- Prior experience managing trade-related aspects of large-scale M&A transactions and post-closing integration.
