Job Summary
Bechtel is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to support EPC Transformation initiatives, including AI-enabled engineering, autonomous robotics, and data-driven project delivery. This role will partner with robotics, innovation, engineering, construction, and digital teams to enable responsible EPC transformation while managing legal risk.
Major Responsibilities
- Support our EPC transformation by serving as the embedded legal advisor on autonomous robotics, vehicle and technologies, engineering innovation, and vertical artificial intelligence integration into EPC service delivery.
- Draft and negotiate supplier technology, robotics, and vendor agreements for preliminary discussions, proofs of concept, pilots, and procurements.
- Draft and negotiate research and joint development agreements with a focus on protecting Bechtel’s intellectual property and integrating appropriate technical architecture ontologies and safety industrial standards (IEEE, ISO, ANSI/RIA, ASTM).
- Draft and negotiate EPC prime contract language to facilitate deployment, including data rights and related clauses.
- Evaluate liability, safety risk management, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, MSHA, NHTSA) for use of autonomous software and hardware.
- Provide legal guidance on autonomous robotics deployment and AI governance that reflects both acute legal and strategic analysis.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop procedures, guidelines, and frameworks.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Requires a Juris Doctor (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience.
- 10+ years of legal experience in construction law, autonomous technologies, including vehicles, robotics, and heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Ability to translate highly technical engineering concepts into sound legal strategy.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
- Familiarity with AI and AI governance.
- EPC and infrastructure experience.
- Strong, team-oriented collaborator, with confidence and flexibility to perform in nimble, rapidly changing and growing environments.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and a track record of building new or improving existing programs or processes, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong contract drafting and risk mitigation experience.
- Ability to advise on emerging technologies.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
