Senior Cost and Financial Accountant - Manufacturing

Eligible for up to a $1,000 Sign-On Bonus and Quarterly Performance Bonuses. Reporting to the CFO, the Sr. Accountant will work closely with the organization in providing valued cost and financial information, processing financial and treasury-related activity, and financial analysis. This position also supports the CFO in the monthly closing process, financial data analysis, and provides back-up for financial accounting functions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Cost Accounting
    • Review and implement proposed standard cost changes for purchased and manufactured parts.
    • Support Engineering in the costing aspect of the ECN process.
    • Support product rationalization efforts within the organization.
    • Review inventory transactions daily and investigate out-of-norm transactions.
    • Drive understanding of costs and changes within Operations for continuous improvement.
    • Support Engineering in driving understanding and financial information around the cost of waste.
    • Assist product costing of existing and new products.
  • Financial Accounting
    • Prepare inventory reports and reconciliations for month-end closing.
    • Assist in financial statement preparation, consolidation, and review.
    • Provide internal audit support year-round and yearly external audit support.
    • Oversee multi-currency transactions and relevant ledger accounts with international suppliers.
    • Support in developing accounting policies and procedures.
    • Maintain appropriate inventory valuation accruals through obsolete inventory analysis.
    • Work closely with all departments analyzing monthly departmental cost spending and variances from plan.
    • Ensure proper costs are included in the monthly P/L by department.
    • Ensure proper mapping of inventory transactions to the general ledger through Epicor.
    • Provide insight on financial information flow and accounting processes within the ERP system.
    • Assist in financial system ERP conversion and improvements.
    • Perform periodic account reconciliation as assigned by CFO.
    • Review and reconcile specific general ledger accounts.
  • Treasury
    • Maintain banking records for Aries Canada, including cash flow and forecast.
    • Schedule cash payments to Aries U.S. and 3rd party vendors.
  • Sales Tax/GST-HST Tax
    • Process monthly/quarterly/annual reports and related payments for applicable U.S. state sales taxes due.
    • Process quarterly GST-HST returns and related payments for Aries Canada.
    • Work closely with Credit Administrator to ensure exemption certificates are obtained from customers claiming exemptions and are maintained in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Financial Analysis
    • Review Margins on sales orders and jobs.
    • Create financial models using discounted cash flow analysis, IRR, and payback period to assist management in calculating ROI and investment decisions.
    • Lead the annual operating and capital budget preparation for the Company.
    • Prepare monthly causal of variances from budget and forecast.
    • Prepare bi-monthly forecast working with Sales and Operations.
    • Analyze cost variances and inventory adjustment transactions and identify root cause.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • 5-8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand costs and cost drivers in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to financial closing in a manufacturing organization.
  • Exposure to financial treasury and banking activities in a manufacturing organization.
  • Experience with audits.

Skills

  • A positive "need to know" attitude toward understanding the operational side of the business.

  • A strong analytical drive with a common-sense approach.
  • Experience in working in an ERP environment along with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in public but current experience in private accounting.
  • Experience in a custom job cost manufacturing environment (20% of the role).
  • Experience working within a complex inventory transaction environment.
  • Experience in general accounting and treasury functions.
  • A desire to pursue a deeper career in the Managerial/Financial Accounting world of manufacturing.
