Senior Accountant

About the role

Fred Finch Youth & Family Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing culturally responsive services that promote mental and physical resilience and wellness. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise multiple subordinate staff and perform the full range of accounting functions for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Assume oversight responsibility for a wide scope of an accounting/finance unit and be involved in many phases of complex accounting and financial management.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in a particular area and be held accountable for complete proficiency.
• Plan, direct, and evaluate the activities of assigned accounting functions and staff.
• Review and correct the work of subordinate accounting staff.
• Research, audit, analyze, and evaluate complex financial and statistical data and prepare financial statements, management financial reports, narrative reports, and presentations.
• Exercise analytical skills to research concepts and methodologies to identify, analyze, and evaluate complex problems and propose solutions.
• Prepare, maintain, and reconcile a variety of complex accounting, banking, and financial records, documents, and reports and develop financial feasibility and cost allocation models.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with co-workers, subordinates, management, Board and Committee members, vendors/service providers, and the public and others contacted in the course of work.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Exercise prudent independent judgment.
• Use various computer applications and software in support of accounting activities.

Requirements

• Possession of a B.A. degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Auditing, or a closely related field; and four (4) years of professional experience in accounting or auditing work.
• Or possession of a M.A. Degree in Accounting, Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting, or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
• Or possession of sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units of college of which twelve (12) semester units or fifteen (15) quarter units must be in accounting and/or auditing; and six (6) years of professional experience in accounting or auditing work, at least four (4) years of which should be at a journey/lead accountant level.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of theory, principles and best practices of accounting and auditing along with their application to nonprofit and governmental accounting and budgeting.
• Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and policies governing the accounting, budgeting, and financial operations of nonprofits or governmental organizations including FASB’s Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statements, Interpretations, and Technical Bulletins; and interpret and apply relevant principles, laws, rules, regulations and procedures.
• Knowledge of concepts, systems and terminology of accounting and automated accounting and budgeting systems, software and spreadsheet applications.
• Knowledge of office management practices and procedures, including recordkeeping systems.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of serving as lead accountant for a major area of responsibility.
• Knowledge of management/supervisory experience with verifiable experience serving as supervisor/manager.
• Knowledge of planning, directing, and evaluating the activities of assigned accounting functions and staff.
• Knowledge of reviewing and correcting the work of subordinate accounting staff.
• Knowledge of researching, auditing, analyzing, and evaluating complex financial and statistical data and preparing financial statements, management financial reports, narrative reports, and presentations.
• Knowledge of using analytical skills to research concepts and methodologies to identify, analyze, and evaluate complex problems and propose solutions.
• Knowledge of preparing, maintaining, and reconciling a variety of complex accounting, banking, and financial records, documents, and reports and developing financial feasibility and cost allocation models.
• Knowledge of communicating effectively verbally and in writing with co-workers, subordinates, management, Board and Committee members, vendors/service providers, and the public and others contacted in the course of work.
• Knowledge of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Knowledge of exercising prudent independent judgment.
• Knowledge of using various computer applications and software in support of accounting activities.

Our full benefits package includes:

• Pay range is between $93,330 - $119,115.36 per year.
