Senior Cost Accountant

About the role

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for developing, reviewing, and controlling standard costs while analyzing manufacturing variances and their impact on the P&L. This position supports the monthly financial close process, inventory accounting, cost analysis, and financial reporting within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Update, monitor, and analyze the Cycle Count Program and assist with inventory audits.
  • Execute monthly scrap reporting and help ensure a high degree of inventory accuracy through monitoring of the perpetual inventory system.
  • Review and recommend potential write-offs of obsolete and damaged inventory and ensure accurate valuation of goods on hand.
  • Assist in maintaining standard cost control systems and procedures.
  • Maintain processes for creating and updating standard costs, including labor and overhead rate calculations.
  • Monitor engineering change notifications and implement approved changes to Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Analyze and report manufacturing variances.
  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts.
  • Review and analyze monthly manufacturing expenses.
  • Support month-end close activities.
  • Reconcile raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods inventory; calculate inventory turns and obsolescence; prepare month-end journal entries; reconcile accounts; review monthly financials; and support effective gross margin management.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Weighing/counting scales
  • Knowledge of applicable ISO requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on cost accounting experience, including inventory control experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Oracle ERP experience within a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing BOMs, routers, WIP, and bottom-up standard cost creation.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and macros.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective professional relationships across multiple levels of an organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize financial information logically and accurately.
