About the role

The Senior Cook position at Los Angeles County is responsible for supervising and leading the work of food service staff and inmate workers. Key responsibilities include overseeing meal facilities, preparing meals, instructing staff on health and safety regulations, ensuring quality assurance, coordinating with other kitchen units, and ensuring work areas are clean.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead the work of food service staff and inmate workers
• Cook large quantities of meals using standard preparation and cooking techniques

Requirements

• Completion of a certificate program accredited by the American Culinary Federation Educational Institute (ACFEI) in Culinary Arts from an accredited college*
• Two years' experience in quantity food preparation and cooking of complete meals in an institutional, commercial, military, or similar establishment
• A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation
• Physical Class III - Moderate: standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds, and frequently lifting up to 10-25 pounds

Qualifications

• Desirable qualifications include an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts or a related field, full-time work experience in monitoring and arranging food inventory, cooking large quantity meals, and preparing and cooking complete meals, and supervisory/acting supervisory experience.
