About the role
The Senior Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing the electronic, electrical, and control systems that support facility operations and production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of manufacturing assets in a GMP-regulated environment. In this role, you will work closely with production, quality, and our automation engineering teams to minimize downtime, enhance system reliability, and ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Install, test, commission, troubleshoot, and support PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and automation systems, including programming, configuration, and backups.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical, control, and instrumentation systems, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to improve system reliability, reduce downtime, and support capital projects and upgrades.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation (control logic, wiring diagrams, loop sheets) and ensure compliance with GMP, NEC, OSHA, ALCOA+, and change control standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including OEE optimization, predictive maintenance, and use of advanced diagnostics (vibration, thermography, smart sensors).
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology (or related field) with 6+ years of experience supporting controls and automation systems in manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience working with PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Siemens), SCADA systems (FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition), VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and P&ID loop systems, including programming, troubleshooting, and system support.
- Experience utilizing and troubleshooting industrial communication networks (OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, Profibus DP/PA, Profinet, Modbus RTU/TCP) and supporting integrated automation environments.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&ID, and using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to resolve system issues.
- Experience supporting GMP-regulated environments, including audits, deviations, CAPAs, and change controls, while using CMMS systems (SAP) and collaborating across cross-functional teams to drive reliability and compliance.
