Senior Control Engineer

About the Role

As the Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead the controls team in advancing our AI and Manufacturing 4.0 initiatives. This role involves overseeing control systems and qualification documentation, supporting production through automation design, installation, and launch, and managing new machine controls, drives, and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Update, modify, and improve existing controls systems, including robotic programs, ladder logic, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interfaces, pneumatic systems, and control distribution.
• Lead the controls team and projects, ensuring effective collaboration and execution.
• Design and develop new machine controls, including robotic, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and vision systems.
• Develop and support maintenance programs for equipment.
• Coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams on existing machine control modifications for robotic, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and vision systems.
• Create and maintain hard copies and electronic databases for electrical and pneumatic schematics, panel layouts, PLC programs, operator interfaces, robot programs, machine power distribution, and vendor controls documentation.
• Schedule and complete backups of all electronic machine controls and robotic programs on a set schedule.
• Implement and maintain data collection systems from shop floor processing equipment.
• Maintain and expand plant floor machine control Ethernet gateways, links, and connections.
• Maintain all sub-machine control data highways.
• Maintain and update the controls portion of machine standards.
• Coordinate with company systems personnel on plant floor Ethernet machine drop routing and Ethernet message traffic control.
• Complete correspondence, forms, and reports using computers and applicable software.
• Handle confidential information regularly.
• Serve as an active member of a cross-functional launch team.
• Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example.
• Promote and facilitate the Open Door process, effective and respectful communication.
• Participate in continual improvement activities.
• Adhere to customer requirements, the Quality System, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• University degree in a technical field and 3 years of direct work experience, or a minimum of 8 years of direct manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency using lean manufacturing tools.
• 3 years of experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
• Desire to promote the success of the organization and team members by following through on tasked activities, working on time, and to budget.
• Ability to work well with others, build, and maintain positive employee relations.
• Exhibit a high level of flexibility and ability to multitask at all times.
• Positive personality to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees, and suppliers.
• Competent in reading and interpreting schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact.

Physical Demands

• Work in the office 40% of the time and on the manufacturing floor 60% of the time.
• Able to lift up to 20 lbs.
• 50% computer work and 50% equipment interaction.

Schedule

This position is onsite 5 days a week at the Auburn, IN facility.
