About the role
The General Services Department supports the City of Durham, promoting its quality of life and economic health through the stewardship of city facilities and public spaces.
Responsibilities
- Perform oversight and management of multiple and/or large, complex, and high-profile construction and design projects for City facilities and major maintenance.
- Oversee the entire project lifecycle, including land acquisition, design, construction, and close-out.
- Ensure projects meet deliverables and specifications, inspect projects on site, develop and maintain project records, and assist in the real estate acquisition process.
- Negotiate and write high-dollar contracts in accordance with procurement laws and regulations, create and manage schedules and budgets, review project documents, and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage project grants, prepare and/or review project contracts, plans, specifications, manuals, progress and other reports, and oversee project operations.
- Collaborate with design and other consultants, general and special trades contractors, architects, Construction Manager at Risk contractors, City Attorney staff, and other City departments and external agencies.
- Develop project budgets, lead project meetings, coordinate design for in-house projects or oversee contractors, and provide technical and general information.
- May serve as the City’s Energy Manager, tracking energy usage and implementing energy-saving capital improvement projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, building construction, construction management, architecture, design, landscape architecture, or a closely related field.
- Five years of construction project management experience.
- A valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

- Experience managing federally funded trail or infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing design/build projects.
- Experience managing construction manager-at-risk (CMAR) projects.
