Senior Construction Inspector
About the Role
Terracon is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to support a large transportation infrastructure project extending from the Los Angeles metropolitan area to the Nevada state line. This position is primarily field-based and responsible for monitoring construction activities to verify compliance with project requirements, applicable specifications, approved plans, and industry standards.
The Senior Inspector will perform daily inspections across a variety of construction disciplines, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, rail systems, ballast, signals, traction power, and related infrastructure. Experience with rail transportation projects, including track, signals, traction power, structures, or major civil infrastructure, is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures to determine if work is done according to contract specifications.
- Reads and interprets construction drawings and specifications.
- Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
- Prepares inspection reports and documents nonconformance.
- Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
- Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
- Interacts with client and other site personnel to provide input on appropriate resolution of findings.
- Assists Project Manager in development of scope for testing and inspection services.
- Coordinates pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers.
- Maintains equipment operation and calibration.
- Leads, provides direction, and may coordinate activities of lower-level inspectors.
- Performs advanced fieldwork and assists with project management.
- Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects, including pre-task planning and reporting safety issues or concerns to management.
- Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
- Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in construction inspection.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- The ability to travel.
Qualifications
- At least four or more certifications in the following areas:
- ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding).
- ICC Master of Special Inspection.
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- Other national, regional, state, and local materials-related certifications requiring experience and written examination (if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager).
- ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I.
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
