Senior Construction Accountant

About the role

This is a great opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys a hands-on role and wants to work closely with operations, project teams, and company leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day general ledger accounting and support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, account analyses, and reconciliations
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Support job costing and project-level financial reporting
  • Aid in WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Review project costs, labor, materials, and overhead for accuracy and proper allocation
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and collections as needed
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation
  • Reconcile credit cards, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts
  • Aid in budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow analysis
  • Support year-end tax preparation and provide documentation to external CPAs
  • Aid in bonding, insurance, lender, and other financial reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting
  • Partner with project managers, operations, and leadership to provide financial insight
  • Aid in special accounting projects as needed

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
  • Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Construction, mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, or other project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with job costing and WIP accounting is a major plus
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • High level of integrity and discretion
  • Preferred: Construction accounting, WIP and percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, retainerage and construction billing, Certified payroll, bonding and lender reporting, ERP Systems, working directly with project managers and operations teams, compensation & schedule
