About the role

This is a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor position assigned to the West Palm Beach Health Clinic to a multi-program Health Center in an urban medically underserved area. This position will coordinate and supervise the Maternity, Family Planning, Sexual Health, Infectious Disease Clinic (IDC), Gynecology (GYN), and TB clinic staff according to all Florida Department of Health/Palm Beach County Health Department (FDOH/CHD) policies, procedures, rules, regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise the Maternity, Family Planning, Sexual Health, Infectious Disease Clinic (IDC), Gynecology (GYN), and TB clinic staff according to all FDOH/CHD policies, procedures, rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Work as part of the management team to support the unit and the Department to accomplish the goals within the strategic plan.
  • Supervise staff including appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and having the authority for hiring and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions.
  • Provide appropriate level of supervision and complete performance appraisals on subordinate staff in a timely fashion, working with staff on development and improvement issues.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow by assigning fair and appropriate workload to various staff while maintaining excellent patient care; ensuring ample clinic coverage at all times.
  • Participate in center management meetings to discuss changes and maintaining current knowledge within practice areas and disseminate new information to subordinate staff.
  • Ensure case management is initiated and completed by assigned staff. Ensure broken appointments are followed up by appropriate staff. Ensure appropriate cleaning, supplies and equipment is in place for efficient clinic operation.
  • Complete patient assessments, care and coordination of treatment in accordance with the FDOH Internal Operating Procedures, and any other relevant FDOH CHD Policies and Procedures.
  • Advise patients and families on proper health care, interpret medication directions and factors related to patient’s condition for maintenance of good health status. Provide nursing care as well as education to the patients.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor and keep administration aware of daily operations. Ensure compliance with Title X clinical requirements.
  • Perform quality control and patient testing for pregnancy test adhering to Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and State Regulations following Laboratory Protocols. Document according to professional nursing standards and the Health Department Policy.
  • Assist in data collection and documentation of service through use of encounter forms and information system. Participate in Quality Assurance activities and in planned educational sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Licensure/registration/certification requirements: This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques; ability to communicate effectively with the public/coworkers in a courteous and professional manner; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; knowledge of community resources; ability to Supervise People; knowledge of Quality Improvement Process; knowledge of the Case Management Process and Data Collection; ability to utilize the computer independently; knowledge of vaccine management and immunization assessment; knowledge of Electronic Health Record.
