Senior Commissioning Engineer Northern Virginia, Virginia | Operations Engineering - Full-Time | On-Site/Hybrid ABOUT THE COMPANY Global data center developer and operator with significant presence across North America, Western Europe, and other key markets. Serves leading technology and hyperscale companies. Recently acquired by major institutional investor with platform for operational technology and data center management. Positioned for substantial growth driven by AI adoption and cloud migration demand. ROLE The Senior Commissioning Engineer will own and implement commissioning strategy in the execution of L4-L5 commissioning activities. Will drive quality by recommending and enforcing standards for testing critical infrastructure systems, helping development teams validate new equipment and suppliers, ensuring QA/QC of documentation, and identifying training requirements for new equipment and updated sequence of operations (SOO). This role is pivotal in enhancing competitive positioning through delivery of cutting-edge technology solutions aligned to operations and business requirements. WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL Based in Northern Virginia with 50% regular travel to data center locations in Northern Virginia and occasional travel to other US regions. Not a remote role - candidate must be willing to work on-site and travel to commissioned facilities. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Leads projects within commissioning program to ensure evidence of performance and complianceEnsures quality of systems performance and workmanship by collaborating on and enforcing stakeholder and vendor adherence to rigorous testing standardsTranslates customer and operational requirements into technical details supporting cost, quality, timing, scalability and sustainabilityMaintains ownership and focus in fast-paced environment while effectively prioritizing workDetail-oriented with commitment to accuracy and high-quality outcomesWorks independently and as part of team, managing multiple tasks with competing deadlinesStrong written and verbal communication with internal/external stakeholders, vendors and customersMentors commissioning and operations teams on new equipment and procedures REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or closely aligned engineering discipline OR commensurate industry experience / military experience7+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systemsWillingness to travel 50% and relocate to Northern Virginia area PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Chartered or Professional Engineer (PE)Experience with large global data center providers across multiple regionsKnowledge of local building codes and safety regulations in multiple jurisdictionsKnowledge of critical data center equipment (Generators, UPS, Switchgear, Transformers, Power Feeders, Chillers, Plumbing, Fire Detection/Suppression, AHUs, CRAH/CRAC units, etc.)Strong record of mentoring and growing teamsExcellent verbal and written communication skills TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Regular travel (50% - primarily Northern Virginia data center locations, occasional travel to other US regions)Vendor factory visits and qualification (10%)Occasional travel (5%) to industry conferences Venquis is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.
