Senior Collections Representative
About the role
The primary responsibility of a Follow Up Collection Representative is to collect and resolve accounts with commercial insurance balances across various work queues. This includes conducting proactive follow-up with payors regarding non-payment, underpayment, or incorrect payments, calculating expected reimbursement, and recommending legal assignment when necessary. The representative also reconciles accounts to closure and works on inpatient and outpatient accounts. Utilizing multiple databases and applications such as Epic System, Cirius Billing System, Revenue Cycle Pro, and multiple payor websites, they analyze and take appropriate action on information or documents received.
Responsibilities
- Conduct proactive follow-up with payors regarding non-payment, underpayment, or incorrect payments in a stratified manner.
- Calculate expected reimbursement and recommend legal assignment when needed.
- Reconcile accounts to closure and work on inpatient and outpatient accounts.
- Analyze and take appropriate action on information or documents received using multiple databases and applications.
- Utilize multiple databases and applications such as Epic System, Cirius Billing System, Revenue Cycle Pro, and multiple payor websites.
- Frequent contact with insurance company representatives, hospital, and clinical departments.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two or more years of experience working in a hospital billing office environment
- Excellent knowledge of hospital billing and collections, including skills for billing and collections of packaged claims, stop losses, per diems, carve-outs, and other contract terms and conditions, and CPT, ICD, DRG, and HCPC codes
- Understanding of professional fees
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Excellent computer operation including MS Office, keyboard functions, calculator, copier, and fax machine operation
- Proactive and assertive account resolution skills
- Motivated individual with a positive and exceptional work ethic
- Able to follow directions and written procedures
- High attention to detail is essential
- Able to balance assertiveness with compassion for the patient and others
- Able to work onsite in our Emeryville office with the possibility of working remotely from time to time
Preferences
- Medical terminology experience
- ICD, CPT4, HCPCS, DRG coding experience
- Understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations
