Senior CNC (Mill) Machinist

About the role

The Senior Machinist will oversee the production of machined sub-assemblies and final products using CNC machines, particularly Haas mills. This role involves setting up and operating CNC machines, reviewing and implementing program changes, and ensuring that all workpieces meet specified dimensions and tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines to produce machined sub-assemblies and final products.
• Review program specifications and blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing.
• Implement changes to machine programs and enter new specifications using computers.
• Transfer commands from computer to CNC machine modules using a computer network, jump drives, or other media.
• Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
• Monitor machine operations and control panel displays to detect malfunctions and adjust machine settings accordingly.
• Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when necessary.
• Check workpieces for proper lubrication and cooling during machine operation.
• Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines.
• Maintain machines and replace broken or worn machine tools.
• Listen to machines during operation to detect issues and make adjustments.
• Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure they conform to specifications.
• Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement.
• Set up future jobs while operating current jobs.
• Clean machines, tooling, or parts as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred, with post-secondary certificates in technical CNC training.
• Previous production machining experience, including equipment selection, operation and control, and operation monitoring.
• Must have programming skills to write or modify CNC machine programs in both Mazatrol and G-code.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds and work in a dynamic environment.
• Occasional overtime to meet business needs.
• Conversant in English for safe and effective performance of the job.
