About the Role

The Senior Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) Engineer will serve as the discipline CSA lead for various projects, performing shallow and deep foundation design, steel structures design (including steel connections), finite element analysis, retaining wall design, and ensuring compliance with local building codes and client specifications. This role involves overseeing multiple CSA engineers and designers, leading estimates (including FEED estimates), and ensuring tasks are completed within budget and schedule. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with engineering disciplines, project teams, clients, fabrication shops, module assembly shops, and construction teams.

Responsibilities

  • Execute design, analysis, evaluation, and technical documentation for assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
  • Collect and interpret engineering data, develop project design basis, specifications, and perform detailed engineering.
  • Ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards, client standards, and company design policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and set design requirements per applicable codes, including IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, PIP, AWS, and NFPA.
  • Perform seismic design of steel and concrete structures, including seismic steel connection design.
  • Design simple and complex structures, including foundations, retaining structures, and steel structures.
  • Experience with reciprocating compressor foundations and cooling tower foundations.
  • Perform detailed technical analysis of complex project issues.
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.
  • Create engineering sketches and guide the drafting team to generate structural drawings.
  • Provide structural calculations as requested by the client.
  • Design and retrofit existing steel and concrete structures.
  • Communicate significant issues or developments in a timely manner.
  • Participate in proposal development for projects.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues, review work products, and manage assignments.
  • Protect the company’s intellectual property rights.
  • Utilize software such as RISA 3D for structural design and MAT 3D, Foundation 3D, or RISAFoundation for foundation design.
  • Carry out tasks at the direction of the CSA manager.
  • Attend department and project meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional engineer (PE) registration is required; California PE is a plus.
  • NCEES Record is desired; if not obtained, it must be secured within six months of joining the company.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in civil and structural design.
  • Minimum 10 years of design experience in the refining or petrochemical industry.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and see.
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
