Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex civil rights litigation matters from case inception through trial and appeal.
- Defend Section 1983 claims involving constitutional law and governmental liability.
- Serve as first-chair trial counsel in state and federal courts.
- Develop litigation strategies and case management plans.
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, motions in limine, and appellate briefs.
- Conduct and defend depositions.
- Manage discovery, document review, and witness preparation.
- Represent clients during hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Work closely with investigators, expert witnesses, and litigation support professionals.
- Maintain litigation budgets and ensure compliance with court deadlines.
- Provide strategic legal advice and regular case updates to clients.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Licensing: Active member in good standing with the California State Bar.
- Experience: 10+ years of civil rights litigation experience, extensive experience handling Section 1983 litigation, strong constitutional law background, proven ability to independently manage complex litigation matters, significant first-chair trial experience, experience with: trial preparation, jury selection (Voir Dire), direct and cross-examinations, witness preparation, motion practice, discovery management.
