Senior Civil Engineering Designer
Summary Of Position
As a Senior Civil Engineering Designer supporting our Energy / EPC business unit, you will lead civil design efforts for energy and ZEV infrastructure projects across North America. You will own the production of site layout, grading, utilities, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and permitting packages for energy and EV infrastructure projects in a design-build environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and oversee full civil site design packages, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, access, and code-compliant details for energy and EV infrastructure projects
Prepare grading plans, profiles, sections, and construction details using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Perform or review civil and hydrologic calculations, including stormwater conveyance and detention, utility sizing, and road and parking design, using tools such as HydroCAD, Hydraflow, ICPR/StormWise, and similar software
Prepare erosion and sediment control plans, SWPPPs, and stormwater management reports in accordance with local, state, and federal standards
Coordinate civil interfaces with electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, inverters, BESS pads, EV chargers, generators, hydrogen systems, etc.) to ensure safe, constructible layouts in tight sites
Lead day-to-day work planning for a small team of civil designers, assigning tasks, reviewing work, and providing technical coaching
Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings and calculations prepared by junior staff to ensure consistency with company standards and project requirements
Help develop and maintain civil design standards, templates, and best practices for Energy / EPC projects
Collaborate closely with Civil Project Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Structural Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, Construction Project Managers, and permitting specialists as part of an integrated EPC team
Support Project Managers with scoping, design schedules, and design milestone delivery
Research AHJ requirements and design standards, and coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction through entitlement, permitting, and construction phases
Prepare permit-ready drawing sets and technical documentation for submittal to AHJs and utility companies
Respond to RFIs, submittals, and construction questions; provide constructability input to field teams
Conduct site walks and field investigations to verify existing conditions, collect measurements, and assess constraints
Provide civil support to construction and commissioning teams to help ensure design intent is maintained, and field changes are captured in as-built documentation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Approximately 5+ years of progressive site / civil design experience, preferably including commercial or infrastructure projects (fueling, convenience, industrial, energy, or EV charging)
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design, grading, and plan production
Strong understanding of site development fundamentals, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and access design
Demonstrated experience producing complete plan sets and supporting calculations for permitting and construction
Experience reviewing and mentoring the work of junior designers
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Experience
With distributed generation, microgrids, battery energy storage, solar, generators, or ZEV / EV charging infrastructure
Experience in a design-build or EPC environment, coordinating actively with construction teams
Experience with stormwater/hydrology tools such as HydroCAD, Hydraflow, HEC-RAS, ICPR/StormWise, or similar
E.I.T. preferred; P.E. in Civil Engineering is a plus
