About the role

The Senior Civil Engineer (Hydraulic) role with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources offers the opportunity to contribute to challenging and meaningful work. This position involves guiding complex engineering projects that protect natural areas and public spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Support: Provide technical guidance for complex civil engineering projects and review plans, drawings, and cost estimates.
  • Project Design: Develop advanced designs for dams, erosion control structures, streambank stabilization, and related projects.
  • Field Inspection: Visit sites to gather measurements, assess conditions, and collect hydraulic and engineering data.
  • Consultant Coordination: Review consultant work for accuracy, manage design contracts, and track project progress.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Obtain required permits and apply knowledge of environmental and stormwater regulations to assigned projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
    • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
    • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
    • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. Ability to perform essential job functions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. Requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
