Advanced positions in the Transmission, Driveline, and Gear Reducer Chief Engineering organizations for professionals with proven program management and execution experience in transmissions and drivelines. The Chief Engineering team serves as the fully accountable single point technical contact for transmission and driveline products, covering all aspects of product delivery for current production, new product development, or advanced projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of assigned core program(s) and all integration programs.
- Support the chief engineer in directing a team of family (project) managers (FMs), Application Engineers (AEs), and Design System Engineers (DSEs).
- Collaborate with PRC managers, other CE teams, the DEVVAL team, and additional stakeholders to ensure department goals and objectives are met.
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding program deliverables and functional objectives (e.g., cost, timing, efficiency, performance, mass, NVH, CQI, 3MIS, EPUS, JD Power quality metrics).
- Oversight of all aspects of the transmission project for a given vehicle family (hardware, software, calibration, packaging, builds, validation, ED&D, DVPR, Statement of Work, Design Change Requests, etc.).
- Technical interface to Vehicle & PT Integration, AME, Purchasing, EE Core, ePT, Controls, Calibration, Quality, Suppliers, and EE Systems.
- Lead engineering teams to deliver prototype & production transmission solutions that meet vehicle/program requirements.
- Review, approve, and track the System DVP&R and support the development of the component DVP&Rs.
- Co-lead proactive Risk Management tasks with QRE Team (e.g., DFMEAs, DFSS, LUR, Heat Map, Reliability Demonstration).
- Track and lead resolution of all eCIMS/GIMs.
- Coordinate all Trade-off Studies (TOS) and complete proper analysis to recommend proposals.
- Support Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Engineering in Source Package planning.
- Lead program cost roll-ups (e.g., piece cost, tooling, ED&D) with manufacturing engineers & SCIE.
- Coordinate the execution of Performance & Fuel Economy for specific applications (AE to support tasks).
- Co-owner of the “Top 10 List” to address JD Power, CQI, and 3MIS issues; work with assigned leads to implement improvements.
- Represent the chief organization in high-level meetings (e.g., Steering Committees, PRs, MRs, IH mtgs, PC-prep mtgs, VIT mtgs).
- Lead build readiness tasks (build fixtures, test fixtures, dyno support).
- Lead technical reviews/evaluations and technical specification sign-offs (Design Reviews), including EDP deliverables and LRF.
- Lead technical responses to investigate/action bulletins related to the technology.
- Coordinate Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) and benchmarking of RWD hybrid competitive transmissions.
- Serve as the primary interface between the CE group and PRC.
- Manage system interfaces and interactions between components/subsystems of the transmission and driveline system.
- Act as the transmission and driveline hardware system responsible (integration and system balancing of all components).
- Interface with individual COEs, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Development Validation Center.
- Schedule hardware system design reviews across PRC and review DRE design proposals as required.
- Organize reviews with Virtual Analysis/CAE team and ensure Virtual DVP/Scorecard is completed prior to prototype hardware orders.
- Manage Transmission and driveline system and interface DFMEA/DRBFM (team) reviews for complete transparency and cohesive Design Controls.
- Manage Assembly (BOM) Part# Complexity Charts including all Axle & Driveline Systems with clear definitions.
- Manage BRT (Build Readiness Team) for prototype orders; confirm proto hardware orders and procurement to meet program build milestones.
- Coordinate BOM and experimental builds with ACE.
- Lead and manage build readiness tasks (build fixtures, test fixtures, dyno support).
- Support CE & ACE to develop FTE and ER&D/ED&D Cost Roll-ups for Minor/MCA/New Programs.
- Review and approve all change notices ensuring checklists, LL, and E-BPs are updated and aligned.
- Lead Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs)/Value Optimization (VO) effort and alignment with PRC, DVC, and VO teams.
- Represent CE in managing the “lessons learned” document for the program and ensure TS updates E-BPs accordingly.
- Review transmission and driveline system and applicable component “Validation Completion” status with DVC team and provide updates to CE.
- Coordinate DRBTR review and act as keeper of “follow-up items” and decision-maker on issuing GIMS for problem “buds.”
- Manage CQI and GIMS cross-functional task force teams, create priorities, action plans, and track progress.
- Elevate resource issues as needed (CE & Sr. Manager for PRC).
- Work on special projects as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 7 or more years of engineering experience in product development design and release, with at least 2 years in propulsion systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading collaborative and global teams.
- Understanding of typical automotive manufacturing and quality processes.
- Advanced English language skills (90% proficiency in reading and writing).
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Excellent work ethic, organization skills, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in an engineering-related field.
- Design for Six Sigma certification.
