What This Job Involves

The Senior Chief Engineer is responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership of the engineering team with the objective of safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively operating building machinery and systems. This role ensures the highest level of professionalism while meeting client needs and maintaining a commitment to achieving 100% uptime throughout the engineering team. The Senior Chief Engineer protects and improves the value of client assets, implements reliability-based maintenance functions, and continuously evaluates maintenance methods to enhance value-maximizing performance.

  • Maintain refrigeration, water cooling, air conditioning equipment, boilers, HVAC systems, pumps, valves, and other mechanical/electrical equipment while reviewing logs and performing preventive maintenance tasks
  • Adequate inventory of tools and supplies by preparing purchase orders, developing sources for stock materials, and performing periodic inventory and equipment condition checks
  • Oversee activities of contractors working within the building and supervise engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training, and personal development
  • Identify safety hazards and implement remediation solutions while administering safety training programs and ensuring compliance with all regulatory laws and guidelines
  • Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation including up-to-date building drawings, single-lines, and regulatory compliance documentation
  • Provide training and support to expand operations staff capabilities through hands-on instruction in maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Ensure Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) processes are well-understood among building staff, engineers, tenants, and contractors

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of facility-related work experience including customer service, leadership, and supervisory experience
  • Proven managerial experience with demonstrated ability to supervise and develop staff
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes and construction planning/execution
  • Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, mechanical systems, welding, and electrical systems engineering
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical field
  • Universal Technician certification for CFCs (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent certification
  • Experience with reliability-based maintenance programs and best practices
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for building operations
  • Experience with Critical Facility Work Authorization (CFWA) processes
