Senior Chemist & Chemical Engineer

About the role

This position is for a fleet support engineer to support steam plant chemistry and cleanliness issues across the entire nuclear fleet. Applicants are welcome at either the NY or PA sites.

Responsibilities

• Solve problems associated with chemistry and cleanliness control in Naval nuclear steam plants.
• Perform trials, tests, and/or experiments to support engineering, production, and/or R&D activities.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources such as experiments and studies.
• Develop technically and economically sound recommendations and prepare comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results and establish operating equipment specifications.
• Develop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality.
• Coordinate and manage all aspects of small and large projects which require interfacing with various NNL and external organizations.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, evaluate data to draw conclusions about chemistry trends, and multi-task within a fast-paced environment supporting the Navy.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

• Proficiency at reading fluid system drawings

Pay

Pay Range: $95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually. Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
