About the role

Part-time, Non-exempt position reporting to the Parks Department Director and supervising Senior Citizen Center staff. Wage: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the operations and services of the City's Senior Center under the general supervision of the Parks Director and the Area Agency Mountainland Association of Governments (M.A.G).
  • Staff the programs and activities of the Senior Citizen Center.
  • Keep accurate records and information pertaining to the Senior Center.
  • Coordinate Senior Citizen activities and meals.
  • Keep volunteers actively engaged.
  • Communicate with the public to assess and meet the recreational interests and needs of the Senior Citizens in the community.
  • Keep the Senior Center open and available to seniors of the area.
  • Report to Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG).
  • Prepare the Senior Citizen Center budget, monitor on-going expenditures, receive statements of expenditures and costs from the department, and implement cost-effective measures and controls.
  • Advise the representatives to the County Advisory Council as to the needs and recommendations from the Senior Center.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • ServSafe Manager Certificate.

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of general supervisory and managerial principles and practices.

Skills

  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, subordinates, and other employees.
  • This position may require use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have a good driving record.

Experience

  • Two (2) years' experience working in a Senior Citizen Center or similar environment.
  • One (1) year experience in management.
  • Any other combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work may be considered.

Physical Activities and Requirements

  • Repetitive Movement: Requires repetitive movements standard in office-related activities such as typing and talking in person and via telephone.
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate in English both spoken and in writing. Spanish language skills highly preferred but not required.
  • Hearing: Able to understand advanced conversations, receive direction, or understand the spoken word at normal levels of hearing.
  • Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare and inspect written documents or work products or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength: Some office work, some field work.

Working Conditions

No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions exist.

Mental Activities and Requirements

  • Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, often complicated instructions to deal with problems with multiple variables. Ability to reason with a diversity of cultures and individuals with divergent and often strong and vocal viewpoints.
  • Logic: Ability to perform complex skills, including statistics, research data analysis, finance, and interpret charts and graphs. Ability to handle a variety of modestly complex issues and recommend best courses of action when needed.
  • Language: Ability to use an active English vocabulary effectively in written and verbal communication. Spanish language skills highly preferred.
