About the role
Our Transportation Construction, Engineering and Inspection group offers construction services for transportation systems that reflect community needs. We provide program management, design-build expertise, and sustainability solutions to address current and future infrastructure challenges. This on-site field position involves inspecting and monitoring construction activities at project locations across multiple states, including:
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Lisle, IL
- Fairmont, WV
- Charleston, WV
- Knoxville, TN
- Nashville, TN
- Chattanooga, TN
- Raleigh, NC
- Columbia, SC
- Tifton, GA
- Orlando, FL
- Sarasota, FL
The role requires the ability to perform complex inspection activities in at least two of the following categories: Roadway, Bridges, Drainage, Erosion & Control, or Maintenance & Traffic. Work will be conducted under limited or direct supervision based on demonstrated knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex and routine inspections to evaluate materials, construction processes, and adherence to plans, specifications, and special provisions.
- Use advanced equipment and perform complex calculations for construction inspection.
- Review drawings to prepare for construction inspection and understand the design of inspected construction.
- Document and communicate inspection results to supervisors.
- Lead and instruct junior inspectors as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity (e.g., ACI, NICET) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete, if required by the client or jurisdiction.
- Valid driver’s license.
- 12 years of related experience; equivalent additional experience may substitute for a degree.
- Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally (20% - 40% travel required).
Skills
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Intermediate knowledge of mathematical functions, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to adapt to and learn new technologies quickly.
- Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications of varying complexity.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $45.87 - $75.71 USD per hour. Compensation is determined by factors such as role, experience, skills, certifications, education, and geographic location. Bonuses are discretionary and may apply.
