Senior Career Advisor

Mitchell Hamline is seeking a Senior Career Advisor to provide career counseling and advising to current students and alumni, while also engaging with the legal community to coordinate learning and employment opportunities. This role supports the Assistant Dean of CPD through mentorship and leadership of department initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one career counseling to law students and alumni on career development, job search strategies, application materials, interview skills, negotiation strategies, and overall job application support.
• Stay informed about trends in legal and related industries to assist students and alumni in exploring career paths and gaining relevant experience.
• Use 12twenty to track engagement activities with students, alumni, and employers, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
• Track and report on student and alumni employment outcomes.
• Conduct regular outreach to students and alumni, including advising on experiential learning opportunities and facilitating alumni networking and mentorship.
• Oversee and coordinate student outreach through direct emails and newsletters, ensuring each assigned student is contacted at least once per school year.
• Develop, plan, and execute career-related programming and events.
• Create and maintain job search resources, such as tip sheets, job postings, and networking opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with potential employers and externship hosts to facilitate employment and externship opportunities.
• Mentor and coach peers on application materials review, market trends, and hiring practices.
• Assist with new peer onboarding and optimize software workflows to ensure process adherence.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to career counseling processes, programs, and services.
• Assist with data gathering for ABA and other organizational reporting.
• Collaborate with student organizations and faculty to share resources and promote department services.
• Address complex and unique advising needs for students and peers.
• Identify areas for improvement in advising, resources, and programming, and develop strategies to strengthen them.
• Perform additional projects and tasks as required by department needs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in recruitment, counseling, or advising, preferably within a law school or educational setting.
• Demonstrated skills in career development advising.

Preferred Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• Considerable knowledge of legal education and the legal profession.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $58,000 - $81,000 per year, depending on qualifications.
