Senior CAD Technician
About the Role
Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior CAD Drafting Technician (Civil 3D) with flexibility to sit in one of our South Atlantic Region offices: Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Wilmington, NC; Asheville, NC; Greenville, SC; Mount Pleasant, SC; Knoxville, TN; Chattanooga, TN; or Johnson City, TN. This position supports project needs through computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of environmental, civil, and geotechnical engineering design projects, including landfills, industrial sites, utilities, and mechanical drawing systems. You will contribute from conceptual design through construction.

Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards.
- Translate civil/geotechnical engineering concepts (e.g., grading) into design drawings.
- Analyze sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for completing drawing sets.
- Manage the production of drawing sets from creation, markup, and modification based on overall design.
- Transfer engineering drawings to final CAD drawings using appropriate symbols and drafting standards.
- Perform non-routine, complex drafting assignments and copy detailed plans.
- Operate plotters, printers, scanners, and other input/output devices.
- Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar.
- Mentor and oversee CAD Drafting Technicians.
- Participate in the CAD Action Group to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company.
- Collaborate with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and review completed work for quality.
- Drive personal, company, or rental vehicles to client sites, project locations, or offices as needed.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in drafting and a minimum of 1 year (3+ years preferred) of CAD drafting experience in a professional engineering setting, or five years of equivalent education/experience.
- Extensive experience with the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD, including Annotation Styles, Multileaders, MTEXT, Dimensions, Sheet Sets, Paper Space/Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes.
- Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and large civil design projects.
- Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer.
- Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills, including applying fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret redline drawings from engineers, CAD managers, or project team members.
- Strong communication skills to follow complex instructions and maintain a team environment.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years.
- Experience with stormwater management design.
- Experience with ArcGIS and MicroStation.
- Understanding of Civil 3D Annotation styles and tools, including Surfaces, Alignments, Profiles, Profile Views, Pipe Networks, Surface Analyses, and Volume Calculations.
