About the role
This position leads the development, customization, and certification of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors/payloads for airline customers. The Senior Cabin Engineer exercises considerable independence to perform complex engineering design, analysis, and integration from the initial conceptual phase to final product installation, while serving as a key technical point of contact and providing expert guidance to airline customers.

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations, and services globally.
Responsibilities
- Exercise technical ownership by creating, updating, and approving complex 2D/3D CAD models and engineering changes in compliance with manufacturing and design requirements.
- Develop innovative technical solutions to complex cabin design and integration challenges requiring ingenuity and creativity.
- Guide cross-functional teams (stress engineers, drafters, and designers) to ensure design manufacturability, safety, and integration integrity.
- Obtain and utilize Approve and Authorizer technical signatory status for engineering releases and design approvals.
- Lead major cabin engineering projects, establishing clear team requirements, technical objectives, and binding commitments.
- Act as the primary technical contact on key contracts and projects; interact with senior external personnel and airline clients on major technical matters.
- Review technical approaches and design outcomes to establish new standard operating procedures and solutions for future technical issues.
- Lead the preparation, review, and authorization of complex certification plans, test data, and technical documentation packages.
- Maintain high decision-making rigor to ensure all certification data meets regulatory standards.
- Prepare and deliver detailed, complex business and technical presentations to internal leadership, regulatory authorities, and external partners.
- Apply technical proficiency in Python (including libraries like Pandas) to automate complex engineering workflows, data analysis, and report generation.
- Leverage Google Workspace tools (including Apps Script) and AI tools (such as Google Gemini) to streamline project management, technical research, and team productivity.
- Utilize web automation tools (e.g., Selenium) to extract and process technical data from internal databases and supplier portals.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical).
- 9+ years in aircraft cabin interior design, stress/integration analysis, and certification.
- Strong proficiency using Google G Suite.
- Willingness to learn and proactive teamwork.
- Flexibility regarding changing work environments.
- Ability to write reports, specifications, work statements, requirements, and other technical documents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Detailed-oriented with strong proofreading skills.
- Ability to present information and answer questions related to produced documentation.
- Provide clear communication between vendors and the engineering team.
- Frequent communication with internal, external, and international departments.
- CAD experience with Catia V5 is essential.
- Strong capability in MS Office/Google Products.
- Ability to learn new toolsets as required.
- Citizenship authorized to work in the US.
- Travel required: 10% domestic and international.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience with Airbus cabin and cargo engineering.
- French, German, or Spanish language skills.
- Proven track record with Approve signatory authority and ability to obtain Authorizer status.
- Expert proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software alongside scripting tools (Python, VBA, CAD macros).
- High-level oral, written, and presentation skills with proven ability to lead complex technical discussions with senior stakeholders.
- Experience with PDM (TAKSY, PASS-SSI).
Schedule
Minimum 80% onsite and 20% remote.
Physical Requirements
- Vision: Daily ability to see and read computer screens, documents, reports, and engineering drawings.
- Hearing: Daily ability to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone, and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
- Speaking: Daily ability to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications.
- Equipment Operation: Daily ability to operate office and personal electronic equipment (personal computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and electronic identification card for building entry).
- Carrying: Daily ability to carry documents, tools, drawings, and electronic equipment up to 10 lbs.
- Sitting/Standing/Walking: Daily ability to sit for long periods in meetings or while working on a computer; stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor; and walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site. Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required.
