Senior Buyer - Assembly Based Manufacturing

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Buyer with 7+ years of manufacturing experience to lead procurement for mechanical commodities. The ideal candidate will manage supplier performance, optimize supply chain efficiency, and drive cost-reduction strategies in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier selection, set annual improvement objectives, and monitor overall performance
  • Oversee suppliers to achieve the lowest in-place cost for the organization and its customers
  • Develop supply chain programs to improve inventory turns, reduce stock-outs, and ensure flexible responses to customer demands
  • Prepare commodity strategies to reduce the supply base and effectively manage risks
  • Support new product development engineering teams by sourcing new components, negotiating pricing, and meeting engineering specifications
  • Lead negotiations, prepare supplier agreements, and implement projects for assigned commodities
  • Maintain a Preferred Suppliers list and categorize suppliers to develop and execute targeted action plans
  • Track and drive key metrics including Supplier Quality, Service, Cost, Safety, and Integrity
  • Foster strong relationships with Engineering, Sales, Operations, and functional team leaders to lead and assist project groups
  • Communicate activities effectively with suppliers and internal customers

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience; MBA and/or APICS/ISM certifications highly preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in supply chain operations with a strong understanding of front-line operations management and cross-functional teams
  • At least two years of experience in a buyer/planner role; sourcing contract administration and negotiation experience highly desirable
  • Proven commodity experience establishing strategic plans for sourcing manufactured parts, preferably mechanical commodities
  • Experience supporting operations that produce highly engineered mechanical product lines
  • International commodity sourcing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated history of managing direct spend and establishing measurable year-over-year savings
  • Strong technical and analytical skills; process-driven with a high attention to detail
  • Proven success in driving results within a manufacturing organization while embracing Lean principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
